CSPCA Board of Directors Minutes by Teleconference
April 29, 2009 @ 8:10 p.m., CST.
The President Grace Fritz was at her home in Stilwell, Kansas and the
Secretary, Pat Pramuk was in Crown Point, Indiana.
Board members present: Grace Fritz (President), Dr. Jeff Vidt
(Vice-President), Pat Pramuk (Secretary), Roy
Anderson (Western
Director), Rosie Steinke (Central Director), Georgette Schaefer
(Eastern Director), Directors-at-Large: Alice Fix, Gail Garrison,
Dorothy Schuerman, Beverly Wall, Mike Lauer and Debby
Smith. Absent
was Marilyn Currey (Treasurer).
Guests present: Marge Calltharp (Barker
Editor-in-chief), Harry Roach
(Membership Secretary), Bob Calltharp, Judy Dorough (Standard
Committee) arrived @ 9:20 p.m. Marilyn
Vinson (Arizona Club) arrived at

Meeting called to order by Grace Fritz, President.

* PresidentÕs Report: Grace Fritz reported that she had received mail
from the Canine Health Foundation. Dr. Jeff Vidt said
he would be able
to attend the conference in St. Louis. The club received a check from
the Purina Parent Club Partners that has been sent to Marilyn Currey
in the amount of $1213.35. Our club earns this approximate amount
twice a year. Disbursement of money will be decided later. AKC is
sponsoring a Meet The Breeds at the Javitz Center in
New York City in
October of 2009. A notice was sent out to the MemberÕs List and the
Affiliated Clubs list, but so far there were no volunteers to sponsor
the event. Marge Calltharp mentioned this would be a
big event and
that there may be some members in the New York area that may
participate in the event. Marge agreed to assist in locating members
to participate in the event.
*Secretary Report: None. Minutes of February 18, 2009 and PPM changes
including Mentoring Guidelines, VeteranÕs Obedience Showcase and
Ernest Albright Jr. Scholarship Grants were approved with no
opposition.
*TreasurerÕ Report: TreasurerÕs reports from January, February and
March 2009 were approved as filed. No opposition.
All but two applicants listed in the March 2009 Newsletter were voted
in with no opposition. Separate votes were taken for Erika Walsh and
John and Ashley Davis. Motion was made by Gail Garrison to approve
membership of Erika Walsh. Seconded by Georgette Schaefer. Ten
approved with one opposing. Motion was carried.
Motion was made by Gail Garrison to approve membership of John and
Ashley Davis. Seconded by Dorothy Schuerman.
Ten opposed with one
affirmative votel. Motion was not carried. A letter
will be sent by Grace Fritz to John and Ashley Davis explaining the decision.

*The Nominating Committee Report: (Marilyn Currey,

*Barker Bid report was presented by Bob and Marge Calltharp.
Seven
bid invitations were sent out for the Barker. Four bids were returned from the
following publishers: Modern
Litho., Essex, Bear Associates and Advantage Printing.
Bob reported that Modern Litho currently publishes several dog magazines and is
based out of Jefferson City, Missouri. Modern Litho prints magazines for the Samoyed
Club of America, the Doberman Pincher Club of America, the American Beagler,
Charlee Cow, and Pacific Showcase magazine. All references
were happy with this publisher. The change to Modern Litho will also save the
club about $12,000.00 each year.
A motion was made by Georgette Schaefer to accept Modern Litho bid to print
The Barker. Motion seconded by Beverly Wall. There was no opposition and the
motion was carried. The new contract will be started for the July,
August, September issue. Bob Calltharp was thanked
for his efforts.
*Public Education Report - Alice Fix of the Public Education Committee
reported that a BreederÕs Directory Committee is being formed to
follow up on complaints specifically related to advertisements in the CSPCA
BreederÕs Directory. Alan Klessig will chair. The
BreederÕs Directory
Disclaimer was also revamped. The purpose of this effort is to be
educational and not punitive.
Motion was made by Alice Fix to accept the BreederÕs Directory
Disclaimer. Motion seconded by Georgette Schaefer. Motion was
carried. (Attached to this report).
*Standard Committee-Judy Dorough presented an article
written by the
standard committee clarifying the sable coat versus the patterned
coat. Marilyn Vinson suggested a change in the wording of the sable
definition. Judy Dorough will make the changes as
directed. This is
not a change in the standard but an educational article on the sable
coat to make it easier to understand.
New Business:
Motion was made by Beverly Wall to dedicate the 2009 Specialty to Tim
Meitin. Motion seconded by Alice Fix. Six in favor, five opposed.
Motion was carried.
Motion was made by Gail Garrison to approve Black Cat Enterprises to
do the Copper/Metal Trophies for the 2009 Nationals. Motion seconded by
Georgette Schaefer. No opposition. Motion was carried.
Other
Business:
Due to overpayment of dues, Lifetime Members Jocelyn and Mike Barker
will be offered a refund in the amount of $220.00 and Dr. Jeff and Linda Vidt will be offered a refund in the amount of $120.00. The
refund amount is retroactive to the date of the lifetime membership. Dr. Jeff Vidt expressed a desire that his refund to go to the
Charitable Trust.
The cost of sending out the Illustrated Guide and Barker was reviewed.
It was decided to continue at the current rates ($2.00 for the Illustrated
Guide and $10.00 for a Barker).
Pat Pramuk will try to recoup the cost of the
Illustrated GuideÕs that were lost from due to her house fire. She is
contacting the insurance company
The CSPCA website PayPal management will continue
with Roy Anderson.
Postal increases were discussed and it was decided to stay at the present rate
due to the recent increase in dues.
