Futurity/Maturity Jocelyn Barker gave written F/M and Treasurer’s report to members. Reported that last year shared the number of nominations for F/M dropped by 50% this year. Next year Futurity has dropped but not Maturity due to drop in litter nomination or perhaps membership is not as interested in program, or restriction on associate member participation could be affected. Kay has noted that every breeder has dropped in nominating litters unfortunately new members are not coming in as breeders.
For associate members its only been an issue for about 4 people. Following ideas have been presented: contact dog food companies to sponsor F/M, proposing to change some regulations; send judges ballots by e-mail to cut cost; reduce the number of judges to 2 or 3 from 5 or so. Dorothy Schuerman will be offering a trophy. To win this award your Shar-pei will have to be the Grand Futurity Winner the first year and the Grand Maturity Winner the second year. Also were thinking of the breeder to pick 2 or 3 puppies from there nominated litter to show those in a class against one another in competition. Please tell Kay, Georgette or myself if you would like this before creating a new class. Several people suggested that entering maturity dog also in regular class asking if those maturity dogs are finished champions, who are not quite developed enough, to compete as a special, investigated what it may cost to reimburse the CSPCA to only enter that dog in Maturity class. Also investigating in checking the eligibility of a dog before entries close and not the night before, this way if there is any problem we can contact you sooner and you would have time to locate the record and situation can be resolved. The staff would like to make 2 commitments to you will do our best to cut down cost in F/M and will look at any suggestion that you would like to give us to improve the program.
Barker Rev. Alan Klessing announced Sandy Woodall is in charge of the ads, Marge Caltharp will be putting the ads together, and I am in charge of the typing of articles. Any articles of information on old or rescue Shar-pei’s sent to Rev. Alan Klessing. Also I am carrying on an interview with one of the breeders from the Hong Kong Kennel that will appear in the next Barker. Will show the difference between an American and Chinese Shar-Pei. There will also be pros and cons on certain topics in the issue. There will be 135 guest at the Invitational this year. No questions were presented on Ethics.
