The Audit-The Auditor has asked for more items by November
l5th. Some items will need to come from Mr. Sledzik. We need a Power of
Attorney. Lynn Olds has sent her the Barkers the auditor wanted to see. We do
not send the Barkers to non-members,only members are allowed to advertize. We
have done a 990 T. We have loss carry-overs. Mr. Sledzik asked when we send
out the forms for annual dues, if we make a statement that it is not
deductible. We do.
President's Report
The President yielded the floor to Dorothy Schuerman who
spoke briefly to recent events and issued an apology.
The Rescue Organization
The only item on the agenda is the rescue organization.
Discussion centered on trying to determine what we currently have [it appears
to be an associated 50l C, not incorporated on its own.] Advise is to make
sure we supply the money but not get involved in the rescues themselves, for
liability reasons. If it hasn't been done, we will start doing an
incorporation. Lynn Olds and Ed Sledzik will take care of this. Ed Sledzik
suggested that we set this up as a Trust. We are setting up for the least
liability if we have no involvement directly in Rescue. A case was mentioned
in Florida where l00 dogs were rescued and the owner was found innocent. l5
dogs were not returned, the Rescue was liable for those dogs. There is a
difficulty with insurance, but Cattleman's Insurance will start including this
in their policies. A Trust means you don't have to report to a state. It can
be set up so that all CSPCA Board members are trustees, or some number are [Ed
Sledzik's advise was to keep a majority of the Trust Board made up of CSPCA
Board members.] It is easier to run an organization with 3 or 4 members than
l5. If they leave the Board of Directors, they leave the trust, unless the
parent club wants them to remain. Discussion was for Lynn Olds to check on
this with Kay Rosenberger and Ed Sledzik and move this toward a trust.
Karen Kleinhans commented that, when at parent club
conference, it became clear that we are in a good place compared to other
clubs. She thanked Deb Cooper who in turn thanked Bob Rosenberger. Ed Sledzik
then went on to discuss the need for rescue fund raising. We have to get some
activity for fund raising; it must be known it is tax deductible, and send out
receipts. People can give money to rescue in their wills.
Purina rebate program
Marilyn Vinson brought up a program being offered by Purina
to contribute to Canine Health Organization and rescue, or education, or a
program of our choice. 61 parent clubs are participating in this program now.
Any members who use Purina Dog Products, and are members of
Purina Pro Club, would send in their weight circles, cut from the packaging of
their purchases. In addition to the member receiving coupons for money off
future purchases of dog products, the participants would include that they are
a member of the CSPCA and 5% of the money must go to the Canine Health
Organization, and 5% would go to our choice of our rescue, education, or other
projects. This would not reduce the amount of the coupons returned to our
members. We need to notify Purina if we are going to participate in this
program in order to be signed up for 2003 and 2004. Gayle Gold moved, Marilyn
Vinson seconded the motion that we participate in this program.

Breeders' Directory
Pat Evetts mentioned that with Marge Calltharp as our new
editor we must be assured that there is good communication between the
Breeders' Directory and the membership list. We must be sure that there are no
people in the Breeders' Directory who are not members. The solution will come
when the Andersons are doing the membership list and also the website. Karen
Kleinhans will direct Marge Calltharp to verify membership with every issue of
the Barker. A discussion was held whether a member and a non-member could
advertise together. Some are married couples with an individual membership of
just one partner. Lynn Olds will check this with Ed Sledzik. Bryan Timby
moves that the Breeders' Directory contain a statement that if an advertiser
does not renew his membership, the ad will be pulled without a reimbursement
for the unused portion. Pat Evetts seconded this motion.
